Hiya guys, below is some short info about races and sub-races in Ringworld and how they affect the gameplay.
Both a race and a sub-race are a part of who your character is and help define their individuality. The term race is treated as a congregation of smaller groups containing individuals that share the same roots, like Elves or Dwarves. A sub-races, on the other hand are those smaller groups of individuals, for example: a High Elf, Sun Elf or Ruby Dwarf and Golden Dwarf. To explain it in simpler words... it’s like holding two bags full of gemstones, one bag has red coloured gems and the other blue (just don't quote me on that), it’s true that they’re all different shapes and tones, but they are all same stones. Race and sub-race should not be confused with ethnic groups which apply distinguishable, only cosmetic physical differences resulting from inhabiting and adapting to different type of non-magical terrain (such as longer noses or ears, skin tone or colour, or different coloured eyes and different style of clothing - generally providing interesting variations, but not crucial enough to be a sub-race).
Choosing a race is not only for character flavour. Each one of them possesses their own advantages, abilities and traits as well as disadvantages and are treated differently by other races.
